Are you caring for family member or friend with MND? Registrations are now open for the MND NSW 2016 Care for Carers program to be held in May and June 2016 at the MND NSW Centre at Gladesville. This program, which runs one day a week over four weeks, is only offered once a year and it is never too early to attend.
During this informative and enjoyable program, carers hear from a range of allied health professionals with expertise in MND. People who have previously participated in this program have told us that the practical knowledge they gained gave them much greater confidence in their ability to care for their family member or friend with MND. Another valued aspect of Care for Carers is the opportunity to meet others who have a family member, partner or friend with MND. Some rich and lasting friendships have been formed between those who first met in this program.
This is what Dianne had to say about her experience of attending Care for Carers.
I met and have remained friends with other carers travelling my journey. I learnt to feel confident and good about being a carer for my husband. I learnt the importance of taking care of myself. I learnt to be proactive in putting in place all the support available to my husband and myself, which enabled us to have the best quality time together. I learnt there is so much support available within my community and not to be too proud to ask or accept it. I learnt there is still beauty and joy to travel the uncertain road of MND when you are equipped to traverse this journey with support and knowledge.
