Leanne Stewart and her family are taking part in Walk to d’Feet MND Sydney, raising funds and awareness to ensure everyone living with MND and their families receive the support they need.

The Stewarts are Leanne, husband Peter, and daughters Amelia, Sara and Evie, and they will be making their way to Sydney especially for the event.

“My dad lost his battle with MND, so it’s close to our hearts. We saw the walk, and all decided to join.” Leanne said.

The Stewarts have not only signed up to take part in the Walk and offered to volunteer at the event, they’ve also raised double their original fundraising goal.

“I said this year we were going to do it, so myself, my husband and our three daughters have signed up,” Leanne said.

“Our 10 year old Evie has donated all her pocket money, and we’re so glad we can help support MND NSW through the Walk. I feel so lucky we’ve got some generous friends, family, and work colleagues.”

Leanne knows from her work as a home care assistant and her father’s own battle with motor neurone disease, that no MND journey is an easy one, making it vital that MND NSW is there to assist.

“I know from my father’s experience it’s an awful journey, MND NSW helped him get chairs and more so he was able to stay home, and they help people living with MND to stay independent, assisting them and their loved ones.”

“We really wanted to support such a good cause, MND NSW certainly offered a lot of things, and even for people I assist, I still see MND NSW helping those clients too.”

Aside from helping to raise awareness about motor neurone disease and much-needed funds for MND NSW, Leanne is looking forward to a nice morning out at the Walk with her family.

“It’s a lovely area, I'm looking forward to getting out with the family and get a bit of sunshine, and of course to support a good cause.”
