Thank You Blackshaw Belconnen

Recently Blackshaw Belconnen held their annual Charity Bowls Day, this year choosing to support MND NSW after their team member Elin sadly had a family member diagnosed with the devastating disease.

And wow what a day it was! Blackshaw Belconnen Sales Consultant Jack Doyle was one of the event organisers, and confirmed it was their biggest event yet, raising over $25,000 to support families facing MND!

Jack gave an overview of the event:

"There is something special about community coming together on a warm, sun-drenched day, especially when it is for a cause as important as Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The atmosphere at the Belconnen Bowls Club was nothing short of electric for our latest bowls day, the vibes were at an all-time high and I think it’s safe to say, this year is going to be hard to beat!

For starters, we welcomed 24 teams to the event, marking a brand-new attendance high for us. It was fantastic to see such a strong and enthusiastic turnout, including a massive contingent of teams representing Blackshaw Real Estate across our offices, all ready to roll up their sleeves for a great day out.

The weather could not have cooperated better. With the thermometer climbing, the conditions were simply picture-perfect for a day on the greens. To keep everyone cool, we leaned fully into our "Ice" theme this year. That meant fun ice-themed mini-games like our Ice Dunk lucky dip, alongside ice-cold slushies that proved to be an absolute hit. Best of all, every single cent from the slushies went straight to MND NSW (added to our total).

Beyond the competition on the greens, the generosity of our local community blew us away. We welcomed a record number of sponsors and donations this year, starting with Lucy Blain from Blain Financial, who returned for a second wonderful year as our Major Sponsor. We were also thrilled to have Allhomes and ACT Property Inspections back on board sponsoring our two bowling greens, alongside Aperture Media House capturing the action as our media partner, and Capital Prints kindly donating our event shirts.

The raffle and auction tables were another story entirely. One of our other sponsors, Airtouch really brought the wow-factor by donating a massive haul of prizes, including a bar fridge, an air conditioning installation, a Samsung Galaxy Watch, and a TV. Coupled with an influx of local businesses chipping in one or two items each for our table of goodies, we ended up with the biggest and most exciting raffle we have ever hosted. Even the regular locals at the Belconnen Bowls Club got swept up in the fun, jumping in to buy raffle tickets and place bids on the auctions. The club staff were thrilled with how smoothly everything went, from the immaculate greens to the wonderful catering they provided.

One of the most touching and unexpected parts of the day happened away from the scorecards. Sue spoke on behalf of MND NSW, bringing a powerful personal perspective to the event. What truly caught us by surprise—and filled us with so much joy—was the genuine curiosity from our attendees. Throughout the day, people were constantly asking questions and trying to gain a deeper understanding of MND. That organic wave of awareness turned out to be one of the most powerful highlights of the entire event.

When all the bowls were packed away and the final bids were tallied, we were left with the most rewarding news of all: together, we raised an incredible $25,350 for MND NSW.

It completely shattered our previous fundraising records. We are endlessly grateful to everyone who rolled a bowl, bought a ticket, or offered their support. We hope these funds go a long way in supporting families affected by MND, and most importantly, raises a lot more awareness for MND."

Thank you for your amazing efforts in raising awareness and funds, Blackshaw Belconnen!
