Get keen to hit the green - the annual Blackshaw Belconnen Bowls Day is back in 2026, and this year they’ll be supporting MND NSW!
Blackshaw Belconnen Sales Consultant Jack Doyle said the cause is one close to their hearts after one of their staff sadly had a family member diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
“Our team member Elin has a family member who was diagnosed with MND late last year, and they have been getting support from MND NSW,” Jack said.
“She speaks pretty highly of the assistance MND NSW has been providing, so it’s been great to know help is there.”
“It’s also reassuring for us to see where the funds raise go, it’s a worth charity and was an easy choice to support MND NSW at our event this year. It was a fairly unanimous decision when we came together to decide on a charity and Elin put forward MND NSW.”
In addition to raising vital awareness and fundraising to support families facing MND, the event is set to be an amazing afternoon out- with lunch provided, live music, and more. The theme for this year is ‘On Ice’, with best-dressed prizes, raffles, auctions, and some bonus games on offer to help raise extra funds while having fun!
“We’ll be serving icy slushy drinks on the day, and will have a big bucket of icy water that people can pay to dunk their hand into and pick a prize,” Jack said.
“We’ll also have a closest to the jack competition – buy a bowl, and the last one standing who is closest to the jack wins a prize.”
The Blackshaw Belconnen Bowls Day is a real community event, with around 100 people coming along to play bowls, and over 15 businesses supporting the event – as sponsors, donating prizes, and by signing up teams to take part.
“It’s great to get involved – you have a good time and get to support a charity. It’s a relaxed, fun afternoon of bowls where you get to meet people and build connections. A lot of the people attending keep coming back to take part each year,” Jack said.
“Our major sponsor is Blain Financial, our greens sponsors are Allhomes and ACT Property Inspections, and we’ve also had support from Apeture Media and Capital Prints, and a number of other local organisations.”
The event will be held from 12 to 5pm on October 23 at the Belconnen Bowling Club – registration closes Friday October 16, so be quick and book your team a spot at https://airtable.com/appdwtn5TuduUmxoR/shrjc62VtI4otUs1U
