Man and young boy holding hands wearing MND NSW never give up tshirts

We’re POSTPONING the Illawarra National Walk to d’Feet MND and our Hunter Walk to d’Feet MND due to current concerns surrounding the coronavirus (COVID 19). We’ll be rescheduling and will let you know when we’ve locked in a date. We hope you can still get involved – it won’t be the same without you.

Again, like the postponements of our Canberra and Orange Walks we haven’t made the decision lightly. These events are our biggest fundraisers and are the reason we can continue to provide the high level of service and support that we’re known for.

Biggest source of community funding

As mentioned previously, these Walk to d’Feet MND events are so important to us because they’re our biggest source of community funding. The money we raise from these walks allows us to advocate on behalf of people with MND, loan out specialised equipment including electric wheelchairs, communication devices, electric beds and walking frames, provide education, workshops and seminars as well as raise funds for research.

Illawarra National Walk to d'Feet MND

Since the last Walk to d’Feet MND in the Illawarra, we’ve supported 99 people living with MND in the region, providing necessary support at no cost to their families. This year, the Illawarra Walk is particularly special as it was to be held as a National Walk with MND organisations from around the country hosting a Walk in each state on the same day. This event was to be the biggest walk ever held in Australia to raise awareness about the issues facing people with MND and their families.

Hunter Walk to d'Feet MND

In the Hunter, we’ve provided 458 pieces of equipment for people living with MND in the region since the last Hunter Walk to d’Feet MND. To put it in perspective, this equipment is worth a whopping is $457,652 and we provide it at no cost to families. It’s why this event is so important because it’s the only way we can keep providing so many crucial services to those who need it most.

We know you may feel disappointed, we do too but we're working hard to make the best decisions to ensure our community stays as safe as possible during these crazy times. If you signed up to one of these Walks, thank you. It means the world to us.

While we’re happy to provide a refund to anyone who asks for it, we hope participants will see this opportunity as a positive—you’ll have even more time to fundraise so we can reach our target of raising $320,000 across all walks in 2020!

In the meantime, you can check out the full calendar of this year’s Walk to d’Feet MND events.
